Smith works primarily in the medium of photography. The colours of her close-up pictures of plastic toys and bizarre landscapes created with plaster scène are intensely beautiful so that they imitate the texture of oil paintings. Herewith she comments on the essence of beauty and its relationship to the uncanny.

Smith arbeitet hauptsächlich im Medium Fotographie. Ihre Nahaufnahmen von Plastikspielzeug und bizarren Landschaften aus Modelliermasse sind derart  farbenreich und intensiv, dass deren Textur an abstrakte Ölgemälde erinnert. Hiermit kommentiert Fran Smith die Essenz des Schönen und Phantastischen und deren Verwandtschaft mit dem Unheimlichen.
